Writer. Maker. Thinker.
Hi!
I know it’s cliché to say, but I really am glad you’re here. I’ve been writing, doodling, and gluing things together for as long as I can remember, and sharing what I make is one of my favorite things.
My newsletter, what’s true, lives on Substack and chronicles both my life & motherhood musings. Sometimes I write weekly, sometimes I write monthly, but either way I always write what’s true.
In 2025, I published my first book, The Shape of You, a collection of essays and short pieces on my personal story of reckoning with body image and beauty through my late 20s and early 30s. I’ve been told by young women, 30somethings, moms, and even grandmas that it’s a tearful, “much needed” read.
My creativity exploded anew after the birth of my first child in 2026, so I decided to honor the muse and open up a little shop to sell my wares. Jewelry, cards, prints, and canvases are my specialties.
Can’t wait for you to find whatever speaks to you here.

The Shape of You: Personal Reflections on Challenging Beauty Standards
Changing the Narrative, and Celebrating Who You Are, As You AreIn The Shape of You, Emily Steele invites readers in with her raw and intimate reflections as she navigates her complicated feelings about her own body and what it means to be beautiful.
Through personal essays, poems, quotes, and imagery, The Shape of You unravels the beauty narratives that exist among girls and women and challenges readers to rethink how they experience their own bodies and the bodies of others, too.
From childhood to adulthood, Emily boldly confronts body image, disordered eating, and the ever-evolving beauty standards women are expected to uphold. Beyond a cultural critique, The Shape of You serves as a call-to-action to girls and women everywhere to rewrite the narrative and redefine beauty, not as a mold to fit but as the unique shape of You.
She marches to the beat of her own drum and inspires others to let loose and live a little. She’s colorful and fun. She can dress up a t-shirt or tone down a blazer. You know her, you love her, or you are her. She’s The Free Spirit.
